club house

Established 1965 as The Lakes, and re-designed in 1995, this picturesque country club is one of Perth's resort style golf clubs offering facilities that will please both the golfer and diner.

Glen Iris Country Club is located 15 minutes from the city, south on Kwinana freeway and left at Berrigan drive, Jandakot. Originally called "The Lakes Hotel and Golf Links" it has been a well known course in the metropolitan area for approximately 40 years.

It has operated as a privately owned public golf course for that period of time, designed and built by owner Billie Oran Wilson (dec) who had the foresight and dream to turn the golf course into a golf and housing estate development.  It is now owned and operated by his wife Iris Wilson.

The golf course consists of an 18 hole international standard course, driving range, club house with restaurant and bar, professional shop, practice putting green, motorised buggies, hire clubs and all your golfing needs.

Resident golf professional David Elliot is available for golf lessons and all your golfing tips, repairs and tailor made clubs to suit.  Group bookings and corporate days are well catered for.  Gift vouchers, ongoing pensioner specials and rewards program discounts are also available.

The course is challenging with 6 lakes and 63 bunkers which are a credit to head greenkeeper Greg Mitchell and staff. The course is credited with the best greens in the state.

Come and visit the golf course and see the panoramic scenery for yourself, you will not be disappointed.

Glen Iris official opening – an 'historic' event

Extract from the Cockburn District News, dated July 1965:

"The Lakes Hotel and Golf Links – something new for the district

And for Western Australia – from banksias and sand to a most attractive 18-hole, fully reticulated golf course, complete with a 19th unequalled in this State.

In 52 hard weeks of lessons (not six easy ones) is the story of Mr. Mex and Mr. Bill Wilson. Truly men who believe in the future of this district, these two men who, with their wives, decided to give WA something different in the way of a sporting venue where a golfer can really get away from it all and enjoy this recreation as it should be enjoyed.

When Premier Brand teed off to mark the official opening of this course, it was the beginning of something new and different in the relaxing sport.

At a cost of over £100,000, the Lakes Hotel and Golf Links is a step into the future. It is a credit to these men who put so much time and personal effort into an enterprise that will be an asset to the Cockburn District."

Visitors' Comments

"The greens offer a great challenge and really test your putting skills due to the fact that some break nearly to right angles, and others hardly turn at all."

"It is well bunkered, there is a fair bit of water and the trees that border the course do not overhang the fairways."

"Glen Iris also offers a Pro Shop, training facilities with a grass driving range and practice putting green, and also boasts wonderful facilities. Overall, good value for the price of a game!"

"I played Glen Iris recently and it was a pleasant day's golf."
